Qimera Midwater add-on
Qimera Midwater Add-on allows users to extract data from inside the multibeam water column packets and use them as bathymetry. Like all aspects of Qimera, water column processing is simple, quick and guided.
Water column data from any sonar recorded using QINSy can used (for instance R2Sonic), as well as Kongsberg data in ALL or WCD format and RESON/Norbit data in S7K format.
We have brought the successful Sidelobe Suppression filter from FMMW to Qimera which drastically reduces sonar noise to make target selection easier. We have also brought over the downsample capability and also the histogram adjustment to fine tune the amount of low noise returns to be excluded. Qimera also contains a new filter which excludes samples below the real-time multibeam beams.
When just the shallowest sounding over a wreck or rock shoal is required there is a simple “Add Sounding” button that the user can just click on the water column display to select that point and Qimera creates it into a bathymetry sounding by converting the sample to 2-way travel time and beam angle, sound velocity refraction correction, full 3D geodetic processing and finally by adding it in to the final product. All by clicking on one button.

If more points are required to be extracted, for instance to get more wreck detail or to pick out fish farm netting structure, then the lasso and polygon select tools, familiar to the editors in Qimera, can be used. The data points are highlighted as specific User Additional Soundings so that they can be easily differentiated from the normal soundings. All water column picks can be edited in the Swath Editor, 2D Slice Editor and 3D Editor like normal soundings.
