QINSy Release 8.10.2015.11.28.1

There is a new QINSy release available for download from our website for the clients with a valid maintenance agreement.

Please study the "Release Notes" before installing the new version. In case you have difficulties downloading, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Likewise, this is a good opportunity to consider organizing a Training with QPS, so please do not hesitate to contact our sales team to discuss your requirements. In this version many bugs have been solved. In addition the following major and minor changes have been made, moreover new drivers are added to the library to support more devices.

Key changes:

Support For Sub Bottom Profiler Equipment

We have added Sub Bottom Profiler support to QINSy. Tools in this release is considered Phase 1 of the SBP development for QINSy and allows you to record the data, and make the data available in SEG-Y, which is the most commonly used format for Sub Bottom data. In Database Setup, the Sub Bottom Profiler can be added as new system type, and the first system that QINSy supports is the Edgetech unit. The exported SEG-Y data can already by read and processed by FM Midwater and visualized in Fledermaus. In the upcoming new QINSy releases more systems will be added to QINSy, as well as a new display.

The Sub Bottom Profiler system is a separate add-on on the QINSy license. If you are interested to evaluate SBP with QINSy, please contact QPS Sales (sales@qps.nl).

QINSy Online - Improvements To QPD Storage Settings

The storage of QPDs has received some small but important improvements. There is now the option to save a QPD file where all footprints are stored and flagged footprints are set to inactive. This improves the workflow as in processing there is no longer a need to apply the online blocking. The Settings dialog has changed and the new option is available from a drop down list when the QPD format has been selected.

To summarize all changes:

  • a new and recommended option that uses the flags to set footprints to inactive.
  • all options for QPDs are now available from one drop down menu.
  • option that was chosen for the QPD is part of the QPD history and can be checked in processing.
  • the option 'reduced QPD' is still available, not as a format but as an option when the QPD format is chosen. It is the bottom option of the drop down list.
  • in processing a warning will be given when trying to merge QPDs that are incompatible.
  • terminology change to use 'flagged' instead of 'blocking' to be consistent with other QPS products.

Also, kindly note the QPD format has had an upgrade some time ago. There was support for the old type of QPD files but a limitation was that some functionality did not work with these old format files.
In this version you will be prompted whether to upgrade the older QPDs to the new version.

QINSy Online - Improvements To Sounding Grid Settings

The setup of a new sounding grid has been improved. Now it is easier to create a new grid based on the actual systems which are used. Also, an existing definition can also be edited..

Multibeam Echosounders Offering "Extra/Multi Detections"

There are now MBES systems that are able to output more detections than the normal one detection per beam. When these are decoded by the QINSy driver then these are now also flagged as such in the QPD. In addition it is also possible to flag these detections online in the multibeam settings. Flagged extra soundings can be processed with Qimera v1.1. Note that it is described in the drivers help if the driver can decode additional soundings.

Geodesy - Support For NTv2

National Transformation v2.0 converts (2D/horizontal) coordinates between two reference systems by means of a binary Grid Shift File (*.GSB format). The support for datum transformations using geographic grid shift files in the binary NTv2 format as developed by Natural Resources Canada has been added. NTv2 grid shift files have the extension *.gsb and should be copied to the 'Shift' folder under the QINSy program folder.  For the time being, an entry must be added to SHIFTS.DAT for each NTv2 grid shift that is to be used in QINSy, please contact QPS on how to do this. A number of shifts has been added already such as BeTA2007 and OSGB. The shift is linked to specific datums so when those datums are available the shift will be available in the drop down menu in DbSetup.

Please review the Release Notes for the full list of updates to Geodesy items.

Updated Color Map Editor

The color map selection now shows an image of the color scale itself in front of the name helping in the selection of the correct Color Map. This has been implemented in all places in QINSy where a Color Map can be selected.

Navigation Display - Annotations Tool Has Been Added

The Navigation display has a new option to add annotations. This can be a point or area and will have an icon that can be selected from a list. The annotations can be fully edited and can have a reference to a file such as a document or an image. The storage location is in a new Annotations folder in the Project folder (this can also be under the Common File folder). Here the annotations are stored in the file Annotations.qgf. There is also a sub folder for custom Icons. When a PNG file is placed in this folder this will be added to the list of available icons.

Anchor Pattern Data - Can Now Be Shared More Easily And With Less Radio Hardware

With the Subsea Telemetry driver it is possible to share data between QINSy installations, and it has been modified so that anchor information can also be shared. Thanks to this change it means fewer radio units will be  required during anchor handling projects - a very significant consideration.

Tide Data

The Tide Manager utility can show predicted tides, can now also compute predicted tide based on Full Harmonics in addition to the ATT tides that were already supported. There is now also support for import of harmonics tide stations using a CSV file. The format of this file is fixed and described in the Help.

The menus for the Tide Manager also had a small revamp where the file option and station option have been made more prominent with items that fit better under these menus. The UDP Stream option has an improved description in the Help file. The UDP Stream option can be used to monitor real-time tide data and can be used for sounding reduction.

Processing Manager - New Contouring Algorithm

The Generate Bathymetry function for generating contours in the Processing Manager has a new algorithm. Now it is capable of creating contours for even the largest areas, the contours are generated faster and will also be more smooth. Also new with contouring tool are the contour depth labels that can be generated. The option to create a DXF file of the contours and depth soundings is moved from the existing dialog to the export function under the line planning tab in Processing Manager.
