eTrac Utilizes QINSy/Fledermaus in Bay Bridge Project
The piers from the old Bay Bridge in San Francisco, California, USA were recently taken down by California's department of transportation using technology nicknamed a "bubble curtain". A "bubble curtain" consists of a large amount of condensed air being released to lessen any harmful impact to surrounding sea creatures and landforms from blast debris. Fox News did a segment about the "bubble curtain" that can be found here:
A video of the implosion in slow motion is provided here:
eTrac, long time users of QINSy, Fledermaus and new users of Qimera, assisted in both positioning the bubble curtains prior to the blast as well as the post-implosion work. Mike Mueller , Project Manager, used QINSy for acquisition had this to share:
Qinsy was an excellent acquisition and processing package for the San Francisco Bay Bridge demolition project. The rich real-time visualization and QC abilities Qinsy offers while working online was well suited to the work. Lead Project Managers from the demolition design and construction teams were able to quickly see the results of the implosion.Qloud was used to quickly clean and visualize the processed data on-board the vessel while still on-site. Plan, cross-section and 3D views were created immediately and provided critical input for the project managers to direct the post-implosion marine operations.
Sonar imagery of the seabed and structure of the Bay Bridge pier before the implosion and post-implosion. Apparent success for the first of a dozen or more to come during the coming years.
