Annual QINSy Course at Willem Barentsz Maritime Institute

As one of the best maritime education and training institutes in Europe, the Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz (MIWB) has to ensure that students are prepared for various tasks and functions. They should be capable of working with the latest maritime equipment and software for satisfying the market requirements. That is why their world class curriculum is adjusted every year based on the received feedback from their commercial partners.

"Our regular interfaces with market leaders of the maritime industry is why MIWB has been able to keep up with the latest technological improvements", says Rob van Ree, senior lecturer of hydrography. "Since the majority of graduated students end up in dredging, engineering or survey companies, MIWB values the close links with market leaders of survey software market. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to teach students the software that they will be using in the future: QINSy. Furthermore, QPS has always been a reliable and generous partner for us. Organizing a one week QINSy course each year gives MIWB students a competitive edge in their future career."

Rob van Ree: "It’s the software’s functionality that matters"

One students adds: “We learn no nonsense here; if it is offered, it means it is needed, hence everybody takes school serious, because it is fun and practical!” This principle is supported by providing the students regular access to a variety of equipment from multi-beam to side scan and even their own boat called Octans, equipped with the latest version of QINSy. Every year QINSy courses are arranged at different levels for junior and senior students at MIWB in Terscheling, to make sure that they can fully utilize their state of the art solutions.

MIWB students are actively engaged in practical problem solving.
