QPS Qastor News: version 2.5 released

QPS Qastor 2.50.2013.12.9 is available for download from our website for those with a valid maintenance agreement.

QPS Qastor 2.50 contains some of the largest changes to Qastor in recent years. The majority of the changes are to the user interface of QPS Qastor that is very different from the 2.40 versions. Be advised to take some time to familiarize yourself with these changes before setting sail. The release notes provide detailed information on the changes and reading it should help you get started.

In earlier QPS Qastor versions an issue was to quickly go through the vessel setup:

  • The different steps in the vessel setup each showed only a part of the configuration.
  • The communication setup that was part of the vessel setup, while most pilots would use the same device on any vessel. This was often worked around by having an "auto-load-vessel" with the communication settings.
  • A number of settings in the vessel setup were not really vessel related, e.g. the length of the course vector is more a system setting.
  • Selecting a tide method was on a separate page.
  • Selecting a route was done on a separate page.
  • Deep and shallow contours had to be configured in the Mariner settings.
  • There was also the check screen, which was a fast way to setup the vessel and safety settings, select a route and tide. However, this had no visual feedback of the setup.

For QPS Qastor 2.50 we have made a substantial change to the user interface of QPS Qastor to address these issues.

  • First of all, the communications setup has been separated from the vessel setup. The communications setup is now stored as part of the project and therefor loaded automatically when QPS Qastor starts. This also means that the communications are not interrupted when the vessel setup is changed.
  • The NMEA and AIS setup pages have been merged into one “Positioning devices” page. In this page you can select whether you navigate on an NMEA or AIS source. You can add a number of devices to a list, where you can enable the relevant ones. This will allow you to e.g. predefine a connection to built-in GPS and quickly start using it should your preferred solution be unusable.
